Among the things that strike us in this story are the paradoxes Schultz skillfully points to: Racism helped send Green wrongfully to prison; in prison he transformed himself; out of prison he’s better able to cope with the biases he faces again. Schultz also skillfully reveals issues of race and justice while telling a good story. She employs a nice motif—the phrase "keep moving"—for shape and theme. The week after this series ran, after reading the piece, the real rapist turned himself in. He’s serving a five-year prison sentence.
