During a ceremony at Walter Lippmann House on May 1, 2019, the Nieman Foundation honored several investigative journalists and their work by presenting three of the foundation’s annual journalism awards:

• The I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence
  Veteran journalists Monika Bauerlein and Clara Jeffery, selected in recognition of their enduring support of investigative reporting and independent journalists
• The Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Journalism
  The Dallas Morning News for “Pain and Profit,” a 16-month Dallas Morning News investigation into mismanaged health care in Texas by reporters J. David McSwane and Andrew Chavez that has led to important reforms.
• The Taylor Award for Fairness in Journalism
  “Sign Here to Lose Everything,” a five-part Bloomberg News series about predatory lending practices in the cash-advance industry reported by Zachary Mider and Zeke Faux

After the Bingham Prize and Taylor Award winners spoke about their investigations, Monika Bauerlein and Clara Jeffery joined 2019 Nieman Fellow Steve Myers in a conversation about their work.
