Una Vida Mejor

Hull follows a group of Mexican women who journey north to la tortilla grande, as they call the U.S., and shuck blue crabs as "guest workers" on the North Carolina coast. The series' plot, scenes and characters unfold in the mind's eye as in a good film: The born-again Christian crabhouse owner is fully three-dimensional, neither sinister nor admirable. The young Mexican women are strong, independent but also seduced—by American freedoms, money, the things that money can buy, and Mexican men. It's a tale of old world and new, and there's romance, too.
