The Hard Road

Two children were killed and two injured in a hit-and-run accident. This series tells, in long form, the story of two women—the mother of the children and the young woman who hit them—and the defense lawyer who took the case on. It's a dramatic moral tale, one theme of which is the way an event or issue can become a sort of Rorschach test for a community. People interpret it and react in all kinds of ways. The series provides a thorough, very engaging exploration of all sides of the tale, including the women's and lawyer's stories. Their characters are portrayed with complexity and detachment, but the reporters are also unafraid of telling a bold, muscular tale.
