Why is it so great? I recently watched the movie “Network” again, and it could have been written in 2018 instead of more than 40 years earlier. This line almost sums up the last presidential election, doesn’t it? And the depravity of the network execs (Faye Dunaway actually gleams with amoral ambition) as they seek ratings no matter the cost seems a precursor to the lowest-common-denominator reality TV of today — and the political reality show we seem in the midst of. This satire is so dark, I’m surprised it was such a hit. Perhaps because it articulated Americans’ rage?
