In this first-person piece, we liked the wealth of dialogue, rich scenes, vivid characters and satisfying narrative arc. Darr uses a familiar structure: She starts the piece with the moment just before the climax of the narrative, then goes back to tell the story chronologically to the end. Her ending echoes a small point in the middle, which reinforces our sense that we are in good hands, that the narrator has a purpose, a destination.
