Jason and the Argonauts on the quest for the Golden Fleece
Editor's note: This month, we bring you brief reminders from pros around the world about what or who helped them forward in their careers.

Thankful for my mother, who read Greek myths to me and my sister during summer vacations in Cape Cod. We stayed in a bare-bones cottage, but it had a fireplace (which my parents' apartment didn't). Nights were cool, so Dad built a fire and Mom would open D'Aulaires' "Book of Greek Myths" and read them to us. (Jason and the Golden Fleece was great for a two-week vacation because, seriously, a lot of bad things happened to that guy.) Those nights taught me about plotting, characters and narrative flow — and cemented in me a love of storytelling.
