Gratitude Notes (#23): Family, friends and a borrowed cabin in the woods

Editor's note: This month, we bring you brief reminders from pros around the world about what or who helped them forward in their careers.

I am thankful for an understanding family who supports my need to be alone in a cabin in the woods to write in monastic solitude. And I am thankful for generous friends who loan me their cabins and understand why it means so much.

I am thankful for writer friends who pick up the phone or open their doors to listen and offer perspective and support. And I am thankful for non-writer friends who read and offer honest feedback.

I am thankful for the crackle and warmth of wood-burning stoves, for hot springs beside rivers, where steam turns to ice on bare branches, and for the sigh of wind in tall pines.
